Class Party!

On Thursday 6th, Tawhirimatea R5 had our Pool Party at the Olympic Pools. This Party was for the end of the year, we did lots of swimming, had a BBQ for dinner, had ice-cream & chocolate covered strawberries, and Secrete Santa! Everyone had to get the person that they got and their present had to be under $5. We did this party so we could have a good farewell to the Yr 6's this year. I didn't swim for very long because I get really cold, so I got out and got dressed after dinner. Then we had pudding, and after pudding we did Secret Santa and even before that Kate & Kendra said a speech to all of the Yr 6's. So after that we had secret Santa, and when I opened mine, I straight away knew it was a small box of Roses. I had a pretty fun time and was the last person to leave.

SlideShow Animation

This is an easy not very good slide show animation that is made on google slides. It is a horse called Flash or Annie, and it is jumping a jump. It's a pretty simple animation and it didn't take too long to create either. This is another type of animation we can make, it kind of like the stop motion animator we used last week except they have got their differences. I liked how we could choose anything we wanted to do for this animation.

Letter To Gisborne Herald (Competition Entry)

This is my letter to the Gisborne Herald. Every year The Gisborne Herald do a competition where children all over Gisborne can write to them about what Christmas means to them. My whole class has started writing one ready for it to be sent to the Gisborne Herald on friday. We are doing this because it is fun and their are some vouchers that can be won. A few years ago someone from Makaraka School won this competition, and also last year we did this but didn't win anything. We also got to put Christmas boarders round the edge of our writing. I really liked writing this letter I hope I get something.

Me & Isla's Stop Motion Animation

In this blog post I have me & Isla's Stop Motion Animation Movie. We created it in our classroom with lego. It's about helping a friend when they get something wrong on accident. We started doing this with Mrs Crousa a few Tuesday's ago, so it has taken us a long time. What I learnt while doing this movie, was, that you have to have a lot of patients when you are taking the photo's and moving the lego people. I also learnt how to use Colour Key in wevideo, because we had to use Color Key to get our background how it is.

Gis Int Orientation Day

On Tuesday 27th, all the Yr 6's bussed to Gisborne Intermediate School for their Orientation Day. There was 6 of us girls and 9 boys I think. Their school is very very different to Makaraka School! But it's cool and fun. I really like Gis Int. In the morning we went off in groups and filled out a form, but there was no right or wrong answer so it wasn't that much of a form. After we did that we went to one of the hubs and got an ice block each. Morning tea came and that was about 45 minutes. At lunch, and morning tea they lock the classrooms and you can only take out the food that your going to eat. After lunch (which was 1 hour) the whole school did tabloids sports. When we just started our rotations, the rain started coming down and thunder started rolling in. We had to stop d at about 2 o'clock or somthing to get dressed and ready for the busses to pick us up and drop us off back at pour schools. We were in a bus with 2 other schools.

I hope you enjoy reading this post!

Guy Fawkes Night!!

On Saturday the 1oth of November, my family and friends had our Guy Fawkes night. I invited over my friend from school, Hannah and then my other friend from Gis Int Kate and I had then stay over the night and we slept in the tent outside my house. I then had my friend Natasha and my other friend Sophia. We got to roast marshmallows over our big bonfire and ate sausages for dinner and had amazing dessert! We then let off lots of fireworks and we got lots of sparklers each to play with. It was an amazing night and then me and my two besties got to sleep outside in the tent. We stayed up to midnight talking to each other and doing other stuff. I think we only got like 7 & 1/2 hours of sleep that night. We packed lots of things to do and had heaps of midnight snacks.

Weekend Getaway @ Grandads!

On the first day of the holidays (Saturday the 29th) Me, my little brother Campbell, and my big brother Blake got driven over to Whakatane by our Mum and stayed at our Grandads house for the weekend. On Saturday at about 2-3 o'clock, me, my brothers, Grandad and Julia traveled to Kawerau to go walk around their annual Woodfest Competition. It was really fun there me, Campbell and Julia went on the bumper cars and I was soooo good I even got stuck 2 times, (And also bumped into Campbell & Julia like 1000 times!) I also played the "Laughing Clowns" game and won a blue sticky hand but it didn't last long. After that we went and walked around the rest of the competition, and we were there for an hour or two. After seeing everything there, we walked back to the car and travelled back home for dinner. That night we had KFC for dinner and it was kind of yummy, but I still ate lots of it.

The next day we woke up and had breakfast and stuff you normally do in the mornings, and a bit after that me, Blake & Campbell rode our bikes own to our Aunty's house witch wasn't far from our Grandads house. It was only me and Campbell that rode our bikes because, we were going down their to see our Aunty and also to get our Uncles bike so that Blake can ride his bike when we go mountain biking in the redwoods. So later on the day, when five of us were all sorted to go mountain biking in the redwoods, we loaded up the car with all our gear and set off to the free entry mountain biking place. We spent a while there but it was worth it, because it was sooooo fun. After mountain biking, we wet to the spa pool place in Taupo somewhere, and it was kind of close to the redwoods. We also spent about an hour at the spa pools and then got changed and drove back to Whakatane.

The evening came and my Uncle and cousin came over for dinner at my Grandads house and we set off only one firework because we only had one, then my Aunty set off lots and we started cracking up laughing. I had a really fun time at my Grandads for the weekend. I'm not sure if I would like to go over again or not?

Student Teacher Mr Hocquard

This slideshow shows how much Tawhirimatea student teacher really fitted into our classroom while he was with us. I learned so many new things and also he made my work fun! He played games with us and so much more! I hope he comes back next year to Makaraka or even better I hope he goes to Gisborne Intermediate next year to teach for a bit. I hope you like this blog post!

Literacy Week 3/4

This week and next week we are working on a narrative for booktrack me and my group. We are working with Mrs Hall to create a narrative to put on booktrack for others to read. I really like working on booktrack because there are lots of sounds to work with and lots of books to read. I hope you like reading this blog post!

Makaraka Athletics Day

On Monday the 23th, we had our Makaraka School athletics day. I competed in all of the races I could, and that was the 100m and the 200m races. The 100m was my first race of the day, and we had to have two heats for the Yr 6 girls races. The clappers went bang and we all raced off, I felt really nervous and excited. I ran fast and when I reached the finish line I saw my mum right before me looking happy.              Mr Hocquard handed me an orange rod and congratulated me for coming first, I was really proud of myself. The second heat ran and the judes got the top three ready for the final 100m race. Again I was excited and really nervous, again the clappers went and we all ran off round the corner to the finish line. I came first again with both me friends coming second and third. The 200m race was next, so Mr Milne called the Y 6 girls over to the lanes to wait for our turn. Again we had to go in two heats, I was in the first heat, so I got into my lane and waited for the starting sign. 'BANG' went the clapper and we raced off like lighting. I came first again in my heat, then the finals were after lunch. For lunch I had an ice-block and half a container of last night's dinner. During my 200m race, when I near the finish line I got the stitch so Hannah speed up and just passed right by the finish line so she came first by a few centimeters. So altogether I got a first and a second. I had a really fun day with the tabloids sports after the running.

Week 1/2 Literacy Work

We have started a new rotation of literacy work in the classroom. The first two weeks of doing the literacy, my group was on Pm cards, so we had to read the PM card and then we had to answer the questions on the back.

Piktochart Poster

Today with Mrs Krausse we used this new app called "Piktochart". Piktochart works a bit like canva but it's got some differences. On Piktochart we created 5 steps on "How to report inappropriate behaviour online". Using Piktochart was really fun and it's not hard at all to work it. I hope you liked reading my piktochart step by step process on "How to report inappropriate behaviour.

My Groups AppSheet App!

Here is my group GSET App, this is just a screenshot but i'll put the link below. In our app we have a graph of the height of the grass, the agronomist info, and the grass info as you can see on the phone. This app stores it's data on Google Spreadsheets. When you add in data on the sheet it then adds the data in on our app so you can see the new stuff we add on. This app is pretty easy to work and I like using it. It's very fun to play around with but sometimes I get a bit stuck when i'm trying to fix errors and warnings in the app.

In conclusion, my advice is that if your trying to create an app for your business, use Appsheets! It's very easy like I said and very fun to use. I hope you enjoy looking at my groups app and reading this post! Enjoy and have a great day!

In The Holidays....

Makaraka School holidays are just 1 week away from now! Oh I can't wait! My family go away about 5 times a year. In the holidays, my family and I are going away twice. The first time were going away in the holidays is on the 4th of October and we're going to Anaura Bay, just up the coast for 2 nights, we're bringing the Mathers up with us.

Two weeks after that trip when Makaraka Schools Term 4 starts, all my family and our other friends the Carmichaels and we're both going up to Rotorua to stay at a holiday park called Rotoriti. We're going up to Rotoriti on Thursday the 18th. Rotoriti is located just passed Okere Falls and the White Water Rafting starting point.

I really like the holidays but then I miss school. We haven't gone on holiday out of New Zealand as a big family of 6. Well last year we went for a 10 day holiday in brisbane, Australia. That was really fun, but Mum and dad made it a surprise. We left on a friday and I got really annoyed because I had netball that day and I love playing netball! So I hope you enjoyed reading what i'm doing in the holidays with my family. To end my blog i'm going to have a question... Do you like the holidays better than school days? Or is it the other way round for you... Do you like school days better than the holidays?

Greenhouse Seed Growth

This post is to do with our class business, which is about testing soil and grass growth. This post has in it, a graph of my groups seed that we are growing in our greenhouse outside at school. We look after our seeds and take good care. My group (Gizzy Seed Expert Testers) is growing Plantain. What we do with our plantain grass, is we grow it till it's longer than 2cm, when it's grown over 2cm, we cut the grass all down to 2cm.

After that process we keep growing the grass over and over again still cutting it down to 2cm. When we cut the grass we then go and weigh it in mills. I hope you enjoy collecting some information about my group growing our grass!

Using a new video tool in class!

This blog post is about using a new video tool called Loom. This new tool is really cool and fun to use. We had to keep starting again because, it kept saying something went wrong in the middle of our recording. That was annoying but we got through it and we have the finished video for you to watch. I hope you enjoy watching this video!

Whangara Farms 11.6.2018

Whangara Farms

We have been looking at farms and what they do, we also have been looking at the different seeds, grasses and plants that farms may use. We are also looking at what plants grow quicker, and what plants grow slower than the others..  Our guides were Renee and Andrew. Andrew was the manager of were we went, he isn't the manager of all of the land Whangara farms have there is another man that has some of the land. We saw how they trailed their grass and we learned new types of plants. We took some soil samples too. We are looking at testing them tomorrow.

We did it because we are looking at what agronomists do in their job and also what farmers can do to keep their farm healthy. We also did it because we are learning more about what farmers do in their farming lives they have.  We already know what one farm does now we know what two farms do. We are getting better at naming plants and looking and collecting soil samples.

Somethings that stood out to me are that some farms use solar powered machines and easy and quick gadgets to collect info about their farm, how it's doing and the things that are affecting the farm. Some farms are trying to prevent erosions, farms also like to still have lots trees around the landscape. A key ideas is that having dams and ponds in paddocks, don't really help the animals when there is a drought, and having no water. Tanks that fill troughs are much better than dams and ponds, and troughs hidrate the animals better

I liked learning about why the farm was re-planting trees on hillsides to prevent erosions, and preventing poop and dirt going into the river. I enjoyed finding out that lots of different grasses grow in different conditions and grow in different areas. I like how different farms have different ways on how they look after their farm.

I am still wondering do farms ever have to move animals to other paddocks that they don't own. I am also still wondering that if there is a storm and all the paddocks are really flooded, do you have to keep the animals and babies in the flooded paddocks??

Lisa the vet comes to tell us about her job @ school 1/6/2018

Today a vet came and visited us from auckland for the weekend. She is my Aunty, and her name is Lisa Hulme-Moir. She is a vet pathologist. She told us more about Mycoplasma Bovis. She told us about white blood cells and red blood cells. She showed us some of the stuff she has in her lad, and told us that she came to Makaraka School for some of her primary years. She also told us about her journey on becoming a vet.

Whatatutu School Trip

Whatatutu School Trip

This is the school trip we went on on Tuesday 2nd in school hours. Here is my recount about the trip to whatatutu. We learned about whirikoka and his seal OiOi, and where he lived. We also learned about our waters and that the children are always having the attention from adults because us, children need to learn and grow up with our elders beside us encouraging us on, but if we didn't have any adults and elders beside us we won't be able to mande our lives by ourselves for long at the age we are at. We wanted to learn more about the history about whirikoka and his pet seal. We are going to perform a dance of the story of whirikoka at a theater in front of audience. We got to keep a quarts crystal for ourselves. We went down to check out the ancient PA site down the road from the marae we arrived at in whatatutu. I liked the crystals we got to keep and i also liked the ancient PA site. We learned that OiOis oil is still in the ground on the hills on whatatutu. I am wondering how Whirikoka and OiOi meet or found each other and became best friends and how much of a relationship Whirikoka and OiOi had between each other.

History Of Anzac Biscuits

This is some of the history behind anzac biscuits.

Anzac Biscuit Recipe

      Anzac Biscuits
By leah georgia paitin and kendra.
   Ingredients:
  • Image result for anzac biscuits1 cup of Rolled Oats

  • 1 cup of Flour
  • 1 cup of Coconut
  • 1 cup of brown Sugar
  • 1 t of Baking Soda
  • 2 T of Golden Syrup
  • 125g Butter
  • 2 T of boiling water
  • 180c oven makes 20

   Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180c. Lightly grease a baking tray or line with baking paper.

  1. Combined the oats, coconut, flour and sugar together in a large bowl.

  1. Melt the butter and golden syrup together. Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water and add to the butter mixture. Pour the butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix together.

  1. Roll teaspoons into balls and place on the tray, allowing room for them to spread.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, cooking one tray at a time.

Leah: we added to much dough onto the tray. They felt really oily .They smell really nice. The color was ginger. The dry ingredients were really white and crumbly and the wet ingredient were bubbling and we don't know why. When we added in the wet ingredients i'd started to crumble up. When we started to roll them into balls we felt really greasy and oily. Over all the biscuits were really nice  but they were also chewy. Ridin

Kendra: It felt all greasy from the butter when we felt the dough. The colour was ginger. They smell really nice. The biscuits when they were finished they tasted really good but when I tasted them at first they tasted a bit weird and they were crunchy and sweet.

Paitin: the biscuits looked really nice and they smell really nice as well  the biscuits looked really nice and they smell really nice as well the biscuits tasted  really good and they weird nice and crunchy but soft at the same time

Georgia: The biscuits smelt so nice They were hot because they just came out of the oven. They felt hot, warm, and soft. They were steaming. They first looked light brown, then after they looked darkish brown. When we were putting them onto trays they were really oily. We also put too much dough on the tray, so they expanded and connected together to make one big row of a long anzac biscuit. Over all they i personally think that they were really nice and they were crunchy and really sweet.

Weekly Goals

Each week we get a new quote for the week and we write about what it means to us.  We also have to set three goals, Learning, Behaviour, Social, the quote also helps us to set our weekly goals. Each week we also reflect on what we did the previous week. The quote of the week always has a meaning and a message about something.

Class Party!

On Thursday 6 th , Tawhirimatea R5 had our Pool Party at the Olympic Pools. This Party was for the end of the year, we did lots of ...
